Hey everyone, welcome to my week 6 blog post!! I can’t believe I only have 2 blog post left in this class. This week has been another week filled with learning new things. When working on the assignment for this class I used the links provided and was introduced to a new database full of journals with open access. Also this week had a great review of what academic integrity is. I have had a number of classes here at Brandman and every so often the first week of class takes a look at academic integrity. I think that it is always important to have that friendly reminder to be honest and truthful and do what's right. However, after typing that I feel just a little sad that as adults people still need the reminder to honest and truthful. Although it stinks we have reminds to be honest, I found this lesson came as a good reminder for to be sure all work is cited correctly on my up coming papers so I don’t get in trouble. I’ve had an issues with citing in my papers but the reminder will just have me paying more attention to those aspects to up coming my papers.

Melissa, this is my first time visiting your blog and I love the enthusiasm you have to count down the weeks left of school! As a teacher, my students are often doing this themselves and so I can totally relate to your positive way of looking at an upcoming much needed break!
ReplyDeleteAny who, let's discuss academic integrity shall we? This is only my second session at Brandman, yet I have a feeling all classes bring up the reminder of academic integrity (like you mentioned)! I'm on the same page as you though, if we are old enough to make the decisions to pay our way through an expensive college then I think we should also be aware of what will happen if we take illegal shortcuts. After all integrity is to do what's right when no one else is looking, so why are we constantly reminding people of this? You can only enforce good morals and behaviors so far! As adults our ethics have already been established and so if someone knows its wrong then they aren't going to do it (most of the time anyways)!
By the way this was from your fellow classmate - Meghan Wristen
DeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteI think it is important for all us to know that their are consequences to copying people's work. Also, I think it is important for everyone to learn how to cite works and use it correctly. I do think there should be a class for those that want to cite correctly using different types of citations. I know there are a few one day lectures for four hours about citation, however they do fade in time from your memory. I think the best solution is just to simply have a class in this. Not a requirement on top of other requirements, but something for fun.
